OverWeightShaadi.com launched to help overweight people find life partner

05 January, 2009
OverWeightShaadi.com is a niche matrimony site that seeks to help an overweight person find a life partner. The website claims that it has brought over 300 people in touch with one another since its launch in October 2008, leading to two pairings in India and one in US.

“It was at a cousin’s wedding in January last year that my sister and I hit upon the idea of this website,” Aditi Gupta, a software engineer and one of the founders of OverWeightShaadi.com, has said. “Despite many people saying that my cousin would have to lose weight in order to find a good match, she found herself a great partner.”

“That prompted my sister Megha (a student in Delhi) and I to think we could create a platform for people who are on the heavier side to meet others of their kind. After all, losing your sleep and getting depressed just because you are made to believe that you can’t get married because you are plump is downright outrageous,” Aditi Gupta has told IANS.

Concept seems good for overweight peoples, as they gets their partner in ratio chances of 15/85 which hurts to frustrate!

I would also have to agree with Saurabh, its kinda offensive towards people with some extra weight.

And who would also agree with " No overweight biwi" as seriously man Why would I want an over weight wife?

However nice attempt to carve a niche.

But would say Secondshaadi.com would still be the best niche till what I have seen till now.

Personally, I think that idea is offensive to obese people.

I like this concept .... its for a niche community (especially for someone whose efforts in a gym has drastically gone in vain) :)

It's an online industry trend now ... go vertical specific !! may it be an ad network, ecomm portal, matrimonial site etc.

Who is the target audience of this website? If I am an overweight man, I will definitely not want my wife to be overweight and the same will probably apply for a woman. Now does that mean that lean people want overweight spouses!!!! I have my doubts.........

I wonder what has happened to the world as it seems that people are paying more attention to overweights. Very recently Air India has sacked ten of their air hostesses as they were overweights. Read: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/AI_sacks_10_overweight_air_host...

And now there is this website. Wonder whether those ten air hostesses should land up in that site....
