Gharkamai.com aims to connect women professionals with freelance projects

Gharkamai.com is a niche job site that focuses on connecting businesses with Indian women professionals looking for freelance or part time project based work. According to the company, Gharkamai.com doesn’t charge any fee from women professionals or businesses and makes its revenues through an advertisement programme.

Kachina Chawla, co-founder, Gharkamai, has told AlooTechie, “Gharkamai.com helps women professionals who are looking for flexible time-work options to get project based work from various businesses. It also helps employers utilise the talent of qualified and experienced women professionals, with prior work experience, to work on their projects on a freelance or flexi-time basis.”

Chawla further said that the main objective of Gharkamai is to make people believe that there is a need to create such a flexible work space for women and make women believe that given such an opportunity, they can be even more productive and achieve a good work-life balance,

According to Kachina Chawla, about 500 projects across categories such as admin, legal, writing, design, engineering, human resources and legal have so far been posted on Gharkamai.com. Chawla further informed that the website has attracted about 1500 registered users who have uploaded their CVs on the site since its launch in September 2008.

Answering a question on why Gharkamai’s registration form has a male/female option, although the website is promoted as a job site for women, Chawla said, “We do understand that there are several men too with disabilities who would also require this kind of work options and hence we felt that it will be unfair to prevent them from using the portal.”
