Gartner expects half of companies globally to start using Twitter in 2 years
04 February, 2010
Nearly half of companies globally will start using microblogging services like Twitter in two years, according to a report by IT research firm Gartner. The research firm also expects social networking to replace email as the primary vehicle for communications in one in every five businesses across the world. The forecasts are part of a Gartner report that tries to predict the realm of social networking in companies for 2010-2015.
“Rigid distinction between email and social networks will erode. Email will take on many social attributes, such as contact brokering while social networks will develop richer email capabilities,” Matt Cain, vice president, research, Gartner, has said. “While email is already almost fully penetrated in the corporate space, we expect to see steep growth rates for sales of cloud-based social networking services.” [Source: Economic Times]
