Facebook crosses 500 million registered users mark

22 July, 2010
US-based social networking site Facebook has crossed 500 million registered users mark. Facebook has marked the milestone with the launch of a special section, called Facebook Stories, in which users are encouraged to post their personal stories about how Facebook has affected them.

“Half a billion is a nice number but the number isn't what really matters here. What matters are all of the stories we hear from all of you about the impact your connections have had on your lives,” Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO, Facebook, has said.

Launched in February 2004, Facebook has continued adding users despite growing concerns about its privacy policies. Recently, Mark Zuckerberg said there is a “good chance” that the social networking site could boast one billion users within three to five years. [Source: Economic Times]

There is no stopping the Facebook phenomenon. They have literally redefined the online world not just in networking aspect but also social media, business networking, new business avenues and what not. We will have to agree with Mark's prediction of adding another half billion consumers in next 3-5 years.

Facebook is actually a completely new experience of our own beliefs that can be collectively shared with everyone around the world. Changing of experiences, lifestyle, emotions, and even wisdom has become easier, quicker, and more comfortable through Facebook.

" One funny thing is that even newspapers are not paid. I mean no newspaper would survive without advertising revenues. By paying one buck for a newspaper that requires at least 9 to 10 rupees to be made, people are not paying for the content. So, why speak about paying for online news? "
